SEMINOLE, Okla. – A 30-point second quarter explosion broke things open and the Murray State Lady Aggies held off a Seminole State charge after intermission for an 80-72 conference victory on the road Thursday night.
With the victory the Lady Aggies improved to 18-3 overall and kept pace with NEO in the league lead at 8-1 on the year. Seminole dipped to 14-7 and now 6-3 in Region 2 action. Murray State will be idle until returning home Thursday, February 13 to face Connors State.
"Conference road games are always going to be tough and Seminole proved that," head coach Nate Levine stated. "They made more shots at home, and they had the crowd behind them. But we withstood their runs and showed that we are tough to beat regardless of location."
The Lady Aggies got five points apiece from
Jordyn McNeal and
Mya Cotto in the opening period to push out to a 14-10 and then caught fire in a big way with their transition game.
Olivia Quapaw pumped in seven of her season-high 17 points in the second stanza which included contributions from seven Murray State players as they built a 44-26 cushion at intermission.
Seminole State caught fire themselves during a 29-point third quarter to narrow the gap to 61-55 heading into the fourth. That's when Quapaw took over in pouring in 10 more points in the final 10 minutes in helping hold the hosts at bay.
In addition to Quapaw's 17 points, the Lady Aggies got 16 from McNeal, 15 by Cotto along with 11 out of
Ongolea Afu.
