Lady Aggies blister Western in league tilt

Although it took a bit to get rolling, Murray State kicked things into high gear in building a 20-point halftime cushion on the way to an 83-56 triumph over Western Oklahoma State College Monday night at Beames Fieldhouse.

The host Lady Aggies capitalized on a 13-2 flurry early in the second stanza largely behind the one-two punch of Mya Cotto and Ongolea Afu to stir a commanding advantage after leading only 14-9 through one quarter.

Now 17-3 overall and 7-1 in Region 2 play, the Lady Aggies will be on the road Thursday to begin the second half of league action at Seminole State.

Murray State held a 40-20 scoring bulge at intermission before the visitors began to heat up over the final two frames. The Lady Aggies matched point for point and then some while cruising the rest of the contest.

Mya Cotto drilled five three pointers on the way to a team-leading 18 points in the game. Taja Bennett had one of her best offensive outings of the season with 13 points as Afu tossed in 12 and Olivia Quapaw added 10.

Everyone in uniform scored for the Lady Aggies as Mireia Casas contributed nine, Jordyn McNeal had seven, Elyssia Brooks and Arissa Garcia notched four apiece, Latai Charles scored three and Autuwn Sipes-Louie checked in with one point.
