ENID, Okla. – Shaking off a sluggish opening half, the Murray State Lady Aggies turned it on down the stretch to remain unbeaten in conference play with an 80-47 victory at Northern Oklahoma College-Enid on Monday night.
Murray State improved to 14-2 overall while running its winning streak to seven while remaining tied with Northeastern A&M in the league lead. The Lady Aggies will be back home on Thursday to face Redlands Community College before a potential showdown for the outright Region 2 lead with NEO on Monday at Beames Fieldhouse as well.
The Lady Aggies led virtually from the start, but could never get much in sync against the Lady Jets, who slipped to 8-11 on the season and 1-5 in conference action.
Coach Nate Levine's club held a narrow 16-12 edge at halftime and 35-28 at intermission before NOC-Enid closed to within 38-34 early in the third stanza. That seemed to provide the missing spark however as Murray State closed the period on a 14-4 burst fueled by sophomore
Olivia Quapaw and didn't let up from there.
The fourth quarter was all Lady Aggies as they exploded for 28 points while limiting the hosts to just nine to close out a dominant second half performance.
Mya Cotto proved to be the catalyst in the late surge with a pair of three pointers and eight points in the stanza.
Four Lady Aggies tallied double figures led by
Arissa Garcia's 17 points. Cotto posted 14,
Ongolea Afu had 13 and Quapaw finished with 11.
Latai Charles pitched in seven points, all of which came in the final frame,
Keshanti Gordon added five,
Mireia Casas scored four,
Awtumn Sipes-Louie had three and
Taja Bennett checked in with two.
