Lady Aggie balance outguns Connors State

WARNER, Okla. – Five players posted double figures as the Murray State Lady Aggies rode a strong second half to an 82-72 conference road win at Connors State College on Monday night.

The victory was the Lady Aggies' fifth in a row as they improved to 12-2 overall and 2-0 in league play. They return home for their next outing on Thursday, facing Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa at 5:30. Connors State fell to 3-12 on the season.

Murray State rode a monster first quarter to a double-digit lead spurred by nine early points from Olivia Quapaw. The Lady Aggies were up 28-18 at the end of one frame but were outscored 24-12 in the second to watch the Cowgirls claim a two-point halftime advantage.

Fueled by seven Jordyn McNeal points in the third stanza, the Lady Aggies surged in front for good thanks to a 23-14 flurry in the 10-minute frames, carrying a 63-56 cushion into the fourth quarter.

Mya Cotto pumped in nine points in the final period to help squelch any hope of a Connors State comeback on the way to a team-high 19 points. She canned four three pointers.

McNeal and Arissa Garcia tallied 13 apiece with Ongolea Afu posting 12 and Quapaw finishing with 11 points. Mireia Casas tossed in eight, Taja Bennett had four and Keshanti Gordon rounded things out with two.

"We have to work on having a stronger start to these conference games, but overall I am happy with the way we battled," head coach Nate Levine commented. "Getting road conference wins is never easy."
