Lady Aggies go cold in Collin County defeat

PLANO, Texas – An ice-cold shooting second half proved disastrous for the nationally 24^th ranked Murray State Lady Aggies in an 86-59 loss at Collin County College on Wednesday night.

The defeat snapped Murray State's three-game winning streak while dropping the overall record 7-2 on the season. Next on the schedule is another Texas road trip at Southwestern Christian College in Terrell at 1 p.m. on Saturday before the Lady Aggies return for a long four-game homestand.

Coach Nate Levine's club looked like it had shaken off the effects of a 10-day layoff since its last contest in grabbing a 37-34 advantage with 2:30 left in the opening half. The host Lady Cougars however erupted with 11 of the final 15 points of the frames to carry a 45-41 lead to intermission.

That momentum fueled another charge early in the third period when Collin County took complete command with a 15-3 flurry in which Murray State could not buy a bucket for nearly six full minutes. The Lady Aggies' lone points in the stretch were free throws by Ongolea Afu and Mya Cotto.

Despite the rugged shooting performance, three Lady Aggies reached double figures offensively with Cotto posting a team-high 14 points. Afu and Arissa Garcia contributed 13 apiece.

Murray State also picked up eight from Jordyn McNeal, five by Mireia Casas, Elyssia Brooks' four and two from Olivia Quapaw.
