Murray State Sports Information
The Murray State Lady Aggies erupted offensively for one of their best halves of the season, but could not overcome an early double-digit deficit to hot-shooting Seminole State in an 85-75 conference opening loss on the road Monday night.
Falling to 8-4 on the season, the Lady Aggies will be off the rest of this week before their first home game in more than a month when they host Connors State on Monday, January 15.
Ongolea Afu was the early catalyst for the Murray State attack with 11 first quarter points to keep the Lady Aggies close despite trailing 23-16 after one stanza. The hosts notched a 15-10 edge in a relatively low-scoring period heading to intermission.
Both teams caught fire after the break, as Murray State nearly doubled its entire first half scoring total with a 25-point frame as Afu pumped in another eight points to go with an 11-point explosion from
Olivia Quapaw.
The Lady Aggies still trailed 66-51 however and could only make up five of those points in the fourth in spite of three treys from
Tierra Williams down the stretch.
Afu tallied 25 points to spur the offensive charge with Quapaw posting 18 and Williams 11.
Mireia Casas narrowly missed double figures with nine points,
Arissa Garcia and
Khalayah Willis scored four apiece with
Cristina Laudan and
Eva Serra both contributing two for Murray State.
