While the women's matchup ended in a scoreless deadlock, the Murray State men's team forged its best performance of the season to shock nationally 12
th ranked Eastern Oklahoma State, 5-1, in conference soccer action on Wednesday.
Both squads will be off through the weekend before travelling to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M next Wednesday.
The Lady Aggies once again came up with a tremendous defensive effort in the opener, blanking the Lady Mountaineers for their sixth shutout of the season but could not manage to break through against the Eastern keeper either while slipping to 7-1-1 on the year.
Jimena Guevara and the Murray State defense continued their suffocating approach while turning back each scoring threat by the visitors. Guevara claimed two saves.
In the men's action, Eastern State grabbed the early lead with an unassisted goal before the Aggies responded by notching five unanswered scores in the rugged battle, giving the Mountaineers their first conference defeat.
Lucas Peruzo and
Dominic Woolley posted two goals apiece in the victory with
Pepijn Borst notching the other unassisted score.
Yuki Yabunaka,
Joel Green, Jahmalee Barclay and
Joshua Adeyemi all provided assists as the Aggies utilized a well-balanced arsenal to record the upset and run their season record to 5-1.
Jaron Noble came through with saves on five of Eastern's six shots on goal throughout the contest.
