Aggies Drop Opening Match of National Tournament to No. 3 Tigers

MSC Men’s Soccer continues play tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Murray State College men's soccer team opened the NJCAA Division I Championship with a tough 3–1 loss to No. 3 Cowley College on Sunday, putting the Aggies in a must-win spot heading into tomorrow's showdown with No. 6 Eastern Florida State College at 1:30 p.m.

Cowley came out firing, striking first in the 21st minute when Shuto Sasaki scored off an assist from Yushin Nakano. Murray State fought to stay in the game, but just two minutes into the second half, Renan Syrio — set up by Kanta Ishii — doubled Cowley's lead.

The Aggies, though, responded right back in the 49th minute. Matheus Andrade Gomes struck a shot into the back of the net, cutting the lead to 2–1. The Aggies tried to knot the match up at two, but were unsuccessful as Cowley would tack on a goal in the 75th minute to defeat Murray State, 3-1, on Sunday.

The Aggies generated seven shots, while Cowley College registered 29 in the contest. Theo Maniscalco tallied eight saves in the match for Murray State College.

Murray State will take on No. 6 Eastern Florida State College tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
