Chesnie Hewitt and
Rayna Rock each homered twice, and top-ranked Murray State exploded for a season-high 18 hits in game two while cruising to a Friday evening softball sweep of South Arkansas Community College in Tishomingo.
The Lady Aggies improved to 44-0 on the year by posting an 8-0 run rule win in the opener before the 17-1 rout in the second contest. Murray State will wrap up the conference series against the Stars with another twinbill Saturday beginning at noon.
Alexa Hopkins twirled a three-hit shutout to lead the charge in game one while striking out six for the pitching triumph.
Murray State broke the scoreless battle in the third inning, plating four runs, and never looked back.
Jadyn Hook and
Emma Damato opened the frame with singles and each rode home on a Hewitt double for the key blow in the uprising.
Rock and Hewitt added solo home runs to fuel a three-run fourth inning and the Lady Aggies ended it one stanza later on a walkoff blast off the bat of
Shallen Mershon.
Hewitt, Mershon and Hook all posted two hits as Hewitt drove in three and Mershon knocked in two. K.J. Morgan,
Abby Beck,
Kenzie Tuck, Rock and Damato tallied one hit apiece.
The Lady Aggies wasted little time turning up the offensive heat in the nightcap, reeling off four runs in the first inning. Mershon, Beck and Tuck each singled with two outs ahead of Rock's line drive, three-run homer over the centerfield wall.
That was only an inkling of things to come as Murray State nearly batted around the order twice one frame later as they erupted for 12 runs to fully take command. Hook, Damato, Mershon and Morgan each doubled during the monster flurry that also included a two-run homer from Hewitt.
Coach Aaron Mullens' club added a final run in the third on an
Ainsley Trapp RBI single.
Hewitt and Rock each contributed two hits and drove in four apiece. Damato had two hits and two RBI, Beck notched two hits and one batted in with Mershon also adding two hits and scored three times.

Brylea Russell, Tuck,
Mattie Richardson,
Morgan Skold,
Avery Flaming and Trapp all finished with one hit.
Ileana Lucio tossed three scoreless innings, yielding two hits and struck out three for the pitching victory.
Taylor Marchin chipped in two frames of relief, allowing a run on one hit.
