No. 2 Lady Aggies Begin World Series with Dominant Victory

Murray State College defeated Louisburg this evening

Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Murray State College softball team opened up the NJCAA Division II World Series with a lopsided victory over No. 15 Louisburg College today, 7-1.

Murray State's offense came out firing in the bottom of the first, stringing together timely hits and taking advantage of early momentum. The scoring began when Cady Ammons laced a double to left field, bringing home Brylee Fanning to open the scoring. Moments later, Mercades Lopez added to the surge with a 2-RBI single, scoring Lilly Wyche and Cady Ammons.
 
The lineup continued to roll as Ryann Phillips delivered a clutch 2-RBI double to left, driving in both Beauchamp and Lopez to extend the lead. Brylee Fanning capped off the explosive inning with a two-run double to center field, plating Bubba Lee and Phillips and pushing the advantage to 7-0.
 
The Hurricanes got on the scoreboard with an RBI double in the top of the seventh to cut the lead to 7-1. The Lady Aggies, though, shut the door and defeated Louisburg on Tuesday. 

Isabella Hardeman got the start for the Lady Aggies. Hardeman earned the win as she fired five scoreless innings, while striking out nine. Carolyn Overton threw two innings in relief, striking out three and limiting Louisburg to just one run. 

The Lady Aggies will have a day off before playing at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday against the winner of No. 7 Jones College and No. 10 State College of Florida.
