Softball Hosts Selection Show Watch Party

The MSC Softball Team earned the No. 2 Overall Seed in the National Tournament

TISHOMINGO, Okla. – Following a dominant regular season and a Region 2 Southwest Plains Tournament Championship, the Murray State College softball team waited anxiously this afternoon as they watched the NJCAA Division II Softball Selection Show to determine what seed they would receive in the World Series. The Lady Aggies earned the No. 2 overall seed and will begin play on May 19 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The Murray State College softball team is 63-1 on the season and went a perfect 28-0 in Region 2 play. This is the sixth consecutive season the Lady Aggies will compete in the World Series.

The Lady Aggies sport the best pitching staff in the country, headlined by the 1-2 punch of Carolyn Overton and Isabella Hardeman. Overton leads the nation with a 0.30 ERA, while Hardeman leads the country in wins with 30 and is third in the country with a 0.81 ERA.

Murray State has not only been dominant in the circle and elite defensively, but they also have the highest-scoring offense in the country. The Lady Aggies lead the country in batting average (.433), on-base percentage (.517), RBIs (676), hits (721), slugging percentage (.849), doubles (161), home runs (157), extra-base hits (348), and runs scored (727).

The Lady Aggies' explosive lineup has consistently overwhelmed opponents all season. Freshman and Region 2 Player of the Year - Lilly Wyche - leads the nation with 102 RBIs and 28 home runs. Jaliyah Simmons and Cady Ammons are fourth in the NJCAA in RBIs as each has driven in 85 Lady Aggies on the year. 

Murray State opens the World Series against the winner of No. 15 Louisburg and No. 18 Cuyahoga CC on May 19 at 5:30 PM at Tyger River Park in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
