Lady Aggies cruise in Region 2 tourney opener

Top-seeded Murray State shook off the rust of a 10-day layoff as the 21^st ranked Lady Aggies cruised past Redlands, 65-40, in the opening round of the NJCAA Region 2 tournament Thursday in Muskogee.

With their 17^th straight win, Murray State improved to 24-6 on the year and will face fourth-seeded Eastern in Friday's 6 p.m. semifinal. The Lady Aggies swept the season series with the Mountaineers, including an 82-53 blitzing in Wilburton exactly one month ago.

Murray State rode a balanced attack in the opening quarter Thursday as six different players contributed points as they grabbed a 20-12 advantage through 10 minutes. The Lady Aggies then turned up the defense, yielding only four points in the second stanza on the way to a 31-16 halftime cushion.

The Lady Aggies continued pulling away with a 19-13 scoring bulge in the third to carry a 21-point cushion to the final frame and rolled the rest of the way, nearly putting five players in double figures.

Jade Millan spurred the balanced attack with 16 points as Briana Knabe notched 13 while Mattie Busby and Remi Langmaid tossed in 10 apiece. Reese Webb just missed double digits with nine points and Lanie Gooch rounded things out with seven.
