POTEAU, Okla. – Offensive production came in bunches on Thursday as the second-ranked Murray State Lady Aggies cruised to a pair of Region 2 run-rule triumphs at Carl Albert State College.
Freshmen
Avery Beauchamp and
Cady Ammons had monster offensive efforts in the opener as the Lady Aggies blasted their way to a dominant 17-0 decision in game one. In the second contest Ammons blistered four more hits, but it was the extra base prowess of
Kaylee Carter with a double and homer to fuel the 12-0 triumph.
The Lady Aggies improved to 41-1 and upped their season-best winning streak to 21 in a row, topping the 20-game blitz they had to begin the year. Also riding a string of six consecutive league shutouts, Murray State looks to continue that run back home in Tishomingo on Friday by hosting Arkansas State University-Newport for another conference set at noon.
Following a scoreless first in the opener, Beauchamp set the tone by blasting an RBI double to ignite a two-run second inning. That was only an omen of things to come as she belted a pair of home runs and finished with a season-high seven runs batted in.
Ammons wasn't far behind as she also smacked an RBI double to start a four-run third inning uprising before adding two home runs on the way to driving in five.
The Lady Aggies pushed across seven more runs in the fourth and fourth in the fifth to finish it off with a total of 15 hits.
Kennedy Lord also tallied three hits with two coming from
Ryann Phillips and one each by
Brylee Fanning,
Bradi Harman, Carter and Adison "Bubba" Lee.
Harman fired the first four innings, yielding three hits with five strikeouts.
Carolyn Overton twirled one frame of scoreless, no-hit relief.
Coach Aaron Mullens' unit plated at least two runs in every inning of game two, including a four-run outburst in the fourth.
Lee, Harman and Carter each homered in the game but it was Ammons that notched the perfect four for four outing while also driving in three runs.
Fanning,
Haili Igou, Harman and Carter each powered up for two hits. Lee and Beauchamp contributed one apiece.
Isabella Hardeman tossed four innings for the victory, allowing just one hit while scattering six strikeouts. Overton also closed that one with one frame of no-hit relief, fanning a pair.
