WILBURTON, Okla. – Murray State scored five times in the final three innings to rally for a 10-9 non-conference baseball win at Eastern Oklahoma State College on Thursday afternoon.

The Aggies improved to 29-15 on the season while snapping a two-game skid. They are slated to be back home at The Ranch on Saturday for a 1 p.m. twinbill to close out the series with the Mountaineers.

Both teams got off to hot starts offensively as the Aggies plated three runs in the first inning along with two in the second, only to be countered by six tallies from the Mountaineers over the same stretch.

The opening frame eruption was spurred by singles from Junho Son and Michael Barham ahead of Brady Taylor's three-run homer. Murray State rode another long ball in the second stanza as Tanner Norman walked and scored on a Marlon Moore's two-run blast over the centerfield wall.

Eastern led 6-5 until the seventh inning when Brennan Morgan doubled and eventually came across on a Zach Makarewich single for the tying tally.

Murray State briefly snagged a two-run lead in the eighth frame as Grayson Doggett and Son each doubled and scored. The hosts tied the score 8-8 in the bottom of the inning only to watch the Aggies retake the advantage in the ninth by stringing together singles from Norman, Cason Johnson and Son.

Conner Smeltzer came on in relief with one on and no outs in the bottom of the ninth and managed to slam the door for the Aggie victory. Jakob Holzer snagged the pitching victory, yielding a pair of unearned runs on two hits with four strikeouts in three innings. Ace hurler Cash Kuiper got the mound start and worked five frames, limiting the Mountaineers to one earned run on hits in five innings. He fanned six and walked four.

Son racked up three hits and drove in two to fuel the offensive charge. Taylor, Makarewich and Norman ended with two hits apiece as Austin Haley, Barham, Morgan, Doggett, Johnson and Moore all contributed one.
