NEWPORT, Ark – Complete domination was the story for the Murray State softball team as the perennial Region 2 powers went on the road to blast league newcomer Arkansas State-Newport in Thursday's doubleheader.
The nationally second-ranked Lady Aggies cruised to a 20-0 victory in the opener as well as 14-0 in the nightcap while upping their record to 31-1 overall as well as extending their winning streak to 11 straight.
Another lengthy break awaits for Murray State with its next action slated for Tuesday back home against Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa for a 2 p.m. twinbill.
The host Aviators had virtually no shot against Lady Aggie ace
Isabella Hardeman in the first game as the standout righthander was one lone walk away from twirling a perfect game as she struck out eight while not allowing any hits in five frames.
After going scoreless in the first stanza of the day, Murray State erupted for seven runs in the second, three in the third as well as five tallies in both the fourth and fifth innings while piling up a whopping 21 hits overall.
Six of the hits left the park as six different Lady Aggies all homered, including
Brylee Fanning,
Haili Igou,
Bradi Harman, Adison "Bubba" Lee,
Avery Beauchamp and
Karsyn Nye.
Fanning finished the game a perfect four for four at the plate, scoring twice and driving in one, while Beauchamp had a season-best effort by going three for three with five RBI and three runs scored.
Harman, Lee and
Kaylee Carter tallied two hits apiece. Igou,
Cady Ammons,
Kennedy Lord, Nye,
Kendyl Overton,
Brighton O'Connor and
Ryley Severson all ended with one hit in the game.
It was another huge effort in game two by Fanning in the leadoff slot as the Lady Aggie table setter belted a pair of home runs and single in the process of driving in six runs. Ammons also tallied three hits, which included two doubles, and knocked in five as well.
Harman pitched in three hits and scored twice. Igou tossed in a pair of hits with one each by Carter, Nye, Lee, Lord and Beauchamp. Lord's hit was a three-run homer.
Harman earned the pitching win with a season-high four innings of work in which she allowed no hits and struck out nine.
Alanna Routt and
DrewAnn White added scoreless relief efforts as well.
