Aggies drop league-opening pair to NOC-Tonkawa

Facing 16^th ranked and red-hot Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa in the conference opener Thursday, the Murray State Aggies struggled to get much offense going while dropping a twinbill at The Ranch in Tishomingo.

The Aggies slipped to 16-12 on the year while the Mavericks ran their win streak to 17 straight while improving to a sparkling 30-1 for the season. The same two teams will wrap up the league-opening four game series with a doubleheader at Tonkawa on Saturday.

In the opener, Murray State was outhit 8-6 and took until the fifth inning to get anything going, falling behind 4-0. The Aggies finally tallied a run as Brady Richardson singled and came around to score on an Austin Haley single to left.

Tonkawa picked up an insurance pair in the top of the seventh stanza, which Murray matched in its half of the inning spurred by a Junho Son triple and Haley double.

Haley and Richardson posted two hits apiece with one each from Son and Michael Barham.

Cash Kuiper was saddled with pitching loss, yielding four runs on six hits despite striking out eight in five innings. Kyndon Lovell worked two frames and allowed two unearned runs on two hits while fanning a pair.

It was once again the fifth frame when Murray State got on the scoreboard, plating its lone run of the contest on a Barham double. That was one of only four Aggie hits in game two. Tonkawa pushed across four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Brady Taylor posted two of the hits with the others coming from Barham and Zach Makarewich.

Tayte Dome got the pitching start and was tagged with the loss, giving up five runs on six hits and struck out eight. Jakob Holzer twirled the final four stanzas, yielding a pair of tallies with five strikeouts.
