ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – A 13-run first inning in game one set the tone as the Murray State Lady Aggie softball team romped to a doubleheader run-rule sweep of Arkansas State University-Three Rivers on Thursday.
The fourth-ranked Lady Aggies rolled to a 19-0 win in the first contest and 10-0 in game two as they upped their overall record to 27-1 and 6-0 in league play. The teams will finish off a four-game conference set with another twinbill on Friday starting at 11 a.m.
Murray State set the tone right out of the gate as
Brylee Fanning smashed the first pitch of the contest over the leftfield fence for a home run.
Coach Aaron Mullens' squad sent 17 batters to the plate in the initial frame with Adison "Bubba" Lee blasting a pair of home runs while
Avery Beauchamp and
Bradi Harman added one apiece.
Haili Igou and
Cady Ammons contributed doubles with
Karsyn Nye also tossing in a triple.
The Aggies tallied one run in the second frame, two in the third, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth while piling up 22 total hits in the rout.
Lee finished with three hits in the contest and drove in seven runs with Nye also picking up three, which included a home run, as she drove in two. Ammons notched three hits and scored three times.
Other offensive contributors were Fanning, Igou, Harman and
Kaylee Carter with two hits each.
Kennedy Lord, Beauchamp,
Ryann Phillips,
Kendyl Overton and
Lexi Meadows added one apiece.
Three Lady Aggie hurlers combined on a four-hit shutout as
Alanna Routt yielded only one hit over the first two frames,
Carolyn Overton allowed a hit in two stanzas of relief while
Ava Boozer gave up two hits in one scoreless stanza to finish it off.
Game two was a double barrage to start with Fanning, Igou and Harman all starting the contest with doubles that pushed Murray State to an immediate 2-0 advantage. The Lady Aggies tacked on a pair in the third fueled by a Lee double before putting it completely out of reach in the fourth stanza when they erupted for five runs.
Fanning smacked an inside-the-park home run to ignite things as Lord chipped in a two-run double and Beauchamp an RBI triple. The club's final tally came via a Fanning solo home run in the fifth, which was her fourth hit of the game.
Igou, Harman and Lord all posted two hits for Murray State as Ammons, Carter, Lee and Beauchamp tossed in one each.
Isabella Hardeman recorded the pitching triumph with four scoreless innings, yielding one hit and struck out six.
DrewAnn White contributed one frame of perfect relief.
