BRANSON, MO – The second-ranked Murray State Lady Aggies rallied with three runs in the sixth inning and held on in the final frame for a 3-2 win over Southwestern Illinois College Saturday to wrap up a sweep of games in the Annual Branson Festival.
Coach Aaron Mullens' club smacked Northern Oklahoma College-Enid, 8-0, in the opener on Saturday as well to up their record to a perfect 20-0 on the season. Next on the Lady Aggie schedule is a doubleheader on the road at Eastern Oklahoma State on Thursday.
Alanna Routt was in complete command in the NOC-Enid triumph, firing all five innings in the pitching circle for the run rule. She yielded a single hit and struck out seven.
Murray State scored in all but one frame while racking up 10 hits in the process.
The Lady Aggies opened with one run in the second stanza following back-to-back doubles from
Cady Ammons and
Kaylee Carter. Two more runs an inning later came via a
Bradi Harman home run and consecutive doubles from Adison "Bubba" Lee and Ammons.
Kennedy Lord started a four-run outburst in the fourth with a solo homer over the leftfield fence with
Haili Igou adding a double that plated two runs. Murray State's game-ender was pushed across in the fifth on
Avery Beauchamp's RBI double.
Ammons, Carter and Beauchamp all had two hits with one apiece coming from Igou, Harman, Lee and Lord.
Isabella Hardeman recorded the pitching triumph in game two, allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight in five and one-third innings.
DrewAnn White finished the contest in the circle, yielding one run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts as well.
Down 1-0 and in desperate need of a spark in the sixth inning, the Lady Aggies got just that from Harman, who deposited the second pitch of the frame over the leftfield fence for a game-tying blast.
Ammons doubled with one out and scored to put Murray State in front on a Lord single. Beauchamp then chipped in a run-scoring double that proved crucial in the final outcome.
Southwestern notched a two-out run in the seventh to challenge and had both the tying and winning runs on base when White got a game-ending fly out to centerfielder
Ryann Phillips.
Harman had another big game at the plate with a double and homer while Lord and Beauchamp also tallied two hits each. Ammons, Carter and Phillips tossed in one apiece.
