EUNICE, LA – Murray State tallied five third inning runs to tie the game but the Aggies couldn't slow a red-hot LSU-Eunice offense in a 17-9 baseball loss to the Division 1 eighth-ranked Bengals on the road Saturday.
The Aggies dropped to 12-6 on the season while LSU-Eunice improved to 18-1 for the year. Game three of the series is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday in Eunice.
Down 5-0 heading to the third inning, the Murray State offense as nine hitters accounted for five runs on just three hits.
Kaden Monkerud got the rally started with a leadoff double and scored the first Aggie run on a
Brady Richardson single.
Michael Barham had the biggest hit in the frame however, smacking a one-out triple with the bases loaded to drive in all three runs.
The Aggies' final offensive outburst came in the seventh frame when they notched four more tallies to narrow the gap to 11-9 before LSU-Eunice notched the game's final six runs.
Junho Son tripled in the first run of the stanza before Barham knocked in the final three with a home run over the leftfield wall.
It was a tough day for Murray State pitchers as six hurlers were roughed up by Bengal hitters for 20 hits, six walks and five hit batsmen.
The Aggies ended with nine hits spurred by Barham, who drove in six with his homer and triple. Son also posted two hits as did Richardson. Monkerud,
Grayson Doggett and
Cason Johnson all had one hit.
