SNYDER, Texas – Third-rated Murray State smacked 18 extra base hits, including nine home runs, as the Lady Aggies smashed their way to a doubleheader sweep over Western Texas College on the road Saturday.
The Lady Aggies rolled to a 15-2 run-rule victory in the opener before blasting the hosts by a 19-5 count in game two as they improved to 8-0 on the young season. The losses evened the Westerners record at 6-6.
Next up for Coach Aaron Mullens' squad is the THF Winter Blast in Denison, Texas where they are slated to play a pair of games on Friday and Saturday.
Six of the Lady Aggies homers came in the opener as the offense exploded early and often while claiming the run rule verdict. The first of the long balls came from
Brylee Fanning, who went deep on the second pitch of the game to set the tone.
It was still only a 1-0 edge until the third stanza when
Karsyn Nye led off with a home and three batters later
Bradi Harman chipped in a two-run blast.
Cady Ammons tripled in another run with
Avery Beauchamp contributing an RBI single that made it 6-0.
The Lady Aggies put it completely out of reach with eight more runs in the next frame as they sent 12 hitters to the plate. Fanning had two hits, including a double, with Adison "Bubba" Lee,
Kaylee Carter and Beauchamp all belting homers in a four-batter span.
Brighton O'Connor singled in the final tally in the fifth inning.
Fanning finished with a spectacular performance that included a perfect four for four at the plate, three runs scored and two batted in. Lee, Carter, Beauchamp and Nye all had two hits with Harman, O'Connor, Ammons and
Kennedy Lord all chipping in one.
Bella Hardeman cruised through four scoreless innings for the pitching triumph, allowing two hits and adding four strikeouts.
Alanna Routt tossed the final stanza and yielded two runs on two hits.
It was another Fanning barrage in the second game as the freshman blistered three hits, including a double and home run, driving in five runs in the process. She was not the top run producer however as Carter knocked in six while accounting for two hits, one of which was a third inning grand slam.
Murray State's offense plated two runs in the first frame, one in the second, six in the third, seven in the fourth and three for good measure in the fifth on the way to 14 hits for the game.
Lee and Nye chipped in two hits each while Harman, O'Connor,
Emily Rogers, Lord and
Ryann Phillips all tallied one.
Carolyn Overton was credited with the pitching triumph in two and one-third innings of work, scattering nine hits and allowing four runs.
DrewAnn White pitched one and two-third stanzas of scoreless relief with Harman yielding one unearned tally in the final inning.
