Murray slips to baseball powerhouse LSU-Eunice

EUNICE, LA – Murray State had the national powerhouse LSU-Eunice on the ropes in the sixth inning, but the hosts scored the final six runs of the contest to take a 7-4 victory in the baseball series opening battle on Friday.

The Aggies saw their nine-game win streak snapped while slipping to 12-5 on the season. Game two of the three-game weekend set is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Aggie ace hurler Cash Kuiper showed dominant flashes during six solid innings of work in which he struck out 13 batters. He scattered four runs on six hits. Ty Frakes chipped in two stanzas of relief, yielding three unearned runs on just one hit while striking out four and walking four.

Murray State got the offense rolling in the third inning, answering an early Eunice run with a two-out rally. Marlon Moore and Austin Haley singled just in front of a Michael Barham double that plated both in giving the Aggies a 2-1 edge.

They tacked on one run in the fourth as Tanner Norman doubled to right and came across on a Junho Son two-out hit and the final Aggie tally came in the sixth as Brady Taylor doubled and quickly came in to score on a Brennan Morgan hit.

The Bengals countered with three tallies in the bottom of the sixth as well as one in the seventh and two in the eighth.

Murray State ended with an 11-7 hitting advantage for the game, fueled by three hits, including a double from Austin Haley. Son and Norman chipped in two hits apiece. Moore, Barham, Taylor and Morgan ended with one each.
