Murray State Sports Information
A 10-run first inning in game one and nine-run fourth inning uprising in the second propelled Murray State to a dominant baseball sweep of visiting Dawson Community College on Tuesday at The Ranch.
The Aggies cruised to a 15-0 victory in the opener and followed with a 14-4 triumph in the nightcap as they improved to 5-4 on the season. Another twinbill with the Montana squad is set for 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
Brady Taylor's grand slam was the highlight of the first-inning barrage in game one with
Austin Haley also contributing an RBI triple.
Murray State tacked on five more runs in the second stanza, spurred by a
Jacob Knox three-run homer over the leftfield wall.
Knox and Haley each tallied two hits to pace the Aggie 10-hit onslaught.
Michael Barham, Taylor,
Brady Richardson,
Jaxon Miller,
Grayson Doggett and
Trevin Pettigrew all had one hit.
That was plenty of run support for
Jakob Holzer, who twirled three perfect innings that included five strikeouts for the pitching victory.
Lane Springfield chipped in two scoreless frames of three-hit relief while also fanning a pair.
Dawson College actually grabbed a 1-0 lead after one inning of the second contest before Murray State tied it one frame later when
Tanner Norman doubled and scored on a
Brennan Morgan sacrifice fly.
The visitors added another run early in the fourth stanza ahead of the nine-run blitz that once again put the contest on ice. Taylor and Morgan sandwiched doubles against a Norman single to get things rolling for the Aggies.
Barham tossed in a grand slam with Taylor adding another double prior to the inning's conclusion with Norman also doubling in a run.
Murray State posted 14 hits, three of which came from Barham, who also drove in six runs. Norman checked in with three hits as well with Morgan contributing four RBI on his two hits. Haley and Taylor pitched in a pair of hits apiece with Richardson and
Jackson Franks both chipping in one.
Caden Allen worked four stanzas on the mound, yielding two runs on two hits with four strikeouts, for the mound victory.
Hank Brown allowed a pair of unearned runs on one hit in a single frame of relief.
