MELISSA, Texas – The Murray State Aggies scored eight unanswered runs in game two to rally for a 12-9 victory over Dallas College-Mountain View and forge a season-opening baseball split on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies, who dropped a 10-5 verdict in the opener, will face a major test on Sunday as the opening road trip continues at NJCAA Division 1 top-ranked Blinn College.

Saturday's opener got off to a bit of a rocky start as Murray State fell in a 4-0 hole against the Lions before answering to tie the score through five innings. The Aggies plated three in the third sparked by a Zach Makarewich two-run homer and added one more in the fourth frame on a RBI single from Son.

Mountain View however tallied four more runs in the sixth stanza and never looked back while equaling the Aggies' nine hits in the contest as well as taking advantage of three Murray State errors.

The Aggies wasted a strong debut effort from freshman pitcher Tayte Dome as he worked five innings, yielding four unearned runs on three hits, struck out 11 and walked four. Jakob Holzer was charged with the loss, scattering six runs on six hits with five strikeouts in two frames of relief.

Junho Son and Brady Taylor notched two hits apiece to lead the offensive charge as Marlon Moore, Makarewich, Brennan Morgan, Brady Richardson and Nick Vickery all ended with one.

Game two started rough as well despite the Aggies plating two runs in the first and third frames. Makarewich added another home run and Taylor doubled along with Richardson's RBI single.

Trailing 9-4, Murray State began the comeback when Moore singled and rode home on Makarewich's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth. Tanner Norman belted a solo homer for another run in the fifth inning and the Aggies tied it one frame later with a flurry ignited by a Michael Barham double.

They took the lead for good in the seventh on Brennan Morgan's RBI single to right.

Conner Smeltzer put the clamps on the Mountain View offense after the fourth inning as he worked the final six stanzas for the pitching victory, scattering five hits while striking out six and walking just one.

Murray State smacked 12 hits offensively with Moore, Morgan and Richardson all posting two each. Richardson also drove in a pair of runs. Son, Barham, Makarewich, Taylor, Norman and Jacob Knox chipped in one hit apiece.
