Brandon Ivery and
Bol Agu each poured in 14 points in the second half as Murray State pulled away down the stretch, running the Aggie win streak to eight with a 78-65 conference opening win over Seminole State on Monday night.
After seeing a double digit lead narrow to 48-45 early in the second half, the Aggies cashed in a run of transition opportunities spurred by Ivery and Agu, turning back the Trojan challenge while slowly pulling away to improve their season record to 12-2.
Murray State will be idle the rest of the week before visiting Connors State for its next league outing on Monday.
"Seminole came prepared and made it tough on us, but we were the tougher team down the stretch," Aggie head coach Josh Davis said. "Big credit to our guys coming off the bench tonight.
Devon MacCollister did a lot of really good things defensively.
Abeeng Agot had some big plays and
Chanon Frye gave us a nice spark offensively in the first half. Those guys were all key for us."
Ivery canned a pair of three pointers to lead an early charge and Frye pumped in nine in the opening half in sparking the Aggies to a 42-34 edge at intermission.
That lead narrowed to just three points five minutes into the second half when MacCollister contributed a pair of steals and Ivery chipped in another that all led to Murray State points.
After extending the advantage, the Aggies then began pounding the ball inside to Agu, who was nearly unstoppable around the paint and on the boards down the stretch.
Ivery poured in 26 to lead all scorers with Agu just behind with 21 points while wrapping up with a double-double in rebounds as well.
Frye and
Elijah Tshibangu reached double figures as well, pitching in 10 points apiece.
Rustin Coffey tallied six points with Agot checking in with five.
