Freshman
Bradi Harman tallied five hits and drove in eight runs, while also striking out eight in just three innings of pitching work to spur third-rated Murray State to a conference softball sweep of Arkansas State University Mountain Home on Friday.
The Lady Aggies fired an 8-0 shutout in game one and followed up with a 9-1 victory in the nightcap to run their record to 49-5 on the year and their current winning streak to 16 straight. Murray State will close out the regular season on Saturday with another noon twinbill against ASU Mountain Home.
In Friday's opener,
Dara Hamlin was dazzling in the pitching circle for the first four stanzas of the run rule, allowing only two hits with six strikeouts to notch the win. Harman fired the final frame and struck out three while not yielding a hit.
Murray State began the scoring with a pair of runs in the first stanza despite getting only one hit on a single from
Shaylin Midgley. They added three in the third inning fueled by a Midgley two-run homer and tacked on another three tallies a frame later following an RBI triple by
Kennedy Lord and Harman's two-run blast over the centerfield fence.
Midgley and
Karsyn York notched two hits apiece with Lord, Harman,
Courtney Grey and
Jordan Hayes all adding one.
Game two saw Harman explode offensively with four hits and five runs batted in while sparking the Lady Aggie 10-hit attack. One of those hits went for a home run and she also fanned five in two stanzas of one-hit scoreless relief.
Grey recorded the pitching win in the second contest, yielding one run on two hits over four innings.
Bree Butler contributed two hits, including a double, and drove in a pair. York, Lord, Midgley and Grey each notched one hit.
