DALLAS - The late season surge of the Murray State baseball team continued on Monday as the Aggies notched a solid 7-4 road victory at NJCAA Division III nationally ranked Richland College.
With the victory, the Aggies improved to 23-22 on the season and will be back home at The Ranch on Thursday for a crucial conference pair against Redlands Community College starting at 1 p.m.
Murray State got off to a great start in the nine-inning affair, pushing across three runs in the first frame and another three in the third.
Free passes and an error were pivotal in the first inning surge as
Ty Chaddrick's two-run single was the lone hit.
Andrew Tinsley had the key blow in the third with a double as Chaddrick and
Mason Shimkus both tallied runs batted in.
Richland narrowed the gap with four runs in the fourth and that proved to be all the scoring for the Thunderducks as
Brance Garrett,
Brennan Morgan,
Conner Smeltzer,
Javarian Roquemore,
Kyle Holzer,
Shepard Hall and
Austin Haley all contributing at least one scoreless inning on the mound. Morgan tossed two frames and was credited with the win, allowing one hit with a pair of strikeouts.
The Aggies tacked on a run in the eighth inning which capped the scoring as
Ethan Rone doubled in the run with two outs.
Murray State made the most of six hits in the game as Tinsley recorded two of those in addition to driving in one. Chaddrick finished with one hit and three RBI. Rone,
Trevin Pettigrew and
Kane Springer all had one hit.
