POTEAU, Okla - The Murray State Aggies yielded a season-high 17 runs on 18 hits on a windy Friday afternoon and couldn't answer with enough while dropping a 17-7 conference baseball verdict at Carl Albert State College.
With the loss the Aggies slipped to 17-15 on the season and 3-9 in league play while Carl Albert improved to 19-12 overall and 7-6 in conference action, running its win streak to four straight in the process. The two teams will close out the three-game series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday once again in Poteau.
Murray State plated a run in the first inning and two more in the second to claim a 3-1 lead, but that's the final advantage the Aggies would hold through the remainder of the contest. An
Ethan Rone hit helped account for the first tally with
Trevin Pettigrew,
Jaxon Gless and
Gage Gilchrist notching key singles in the second frame uprising.
Carl Albert pushed across three runs in the bottom of the second and went in front for good with an eight-run offensive explosion in a decisive fourth inning.
The Aggies posted single tallies in the fourth and fifth stanzas with a Richardson RBI single plating the first and hits from
Andrew Tinsley and
Brennan Morgan keying the second run.
Murray State's final scoring flurry came in the seventh when Gilchrist drove in a pair with a double to right. Gilchrist finished with two hits and drove in three to pace the offense. Rone, Morgan and
Wilbert Espinal also contributed two hits each with Tinsley, Pettigrew,
Ty Chaddrick, Gless and Richardson all adding one.
Brody Roe was tagged for seven runs on seven hits in three innings to get charged with the pitching loss.
