Murray State Sports Information
Fresh off an 11-day layoff, the fifth-ranked Murray State Lady Aggies showed little rust with a pair of dominant shutout wins over visiting University of Arkansas Rich Mountain on Thursday.
The Lady Aggie pitching staff yielded just six hits in a pair of shutouts, blanking the Lady Bucks for 8-0 and 9-0 conference victories.
Murray State ran its record to 30-4 and 8-0 in conference play with the next action set for Saturday at Western Oklahoma State College for a 2 p.m. doubleheader in Altus. Rich Mountain saw its record slip to 17-12 overall and 6-4 in league play.
In Thursday's opening shutout,
Courtney Grey fired six stellar innings for the victory in yielding only one hit with six strikeouts and one walk.
The Aggies plated at least one run in every inning and rode the red hot bat of
Mattie Richardson, who belted a pair of solo home runs, to go along with a three-run blast from
Shaylin Midgley.
Murray State tallied 10 hits in the triumph with
Lexi Meadows accounting for three of those while also driving in two runs and scoring once.
Karsyn York,
Haili Igou,
Gracie Lute and
Kennedy Lord also added one hit apiece.
Game two was a quick strike attack for the hosts as they plated six in the opening stanza and never looked back. Midgley got things rolling with a two-run homer as Grey, Lute, Lord and York all singled before the frame was over.
Coach Aaron Mullens' squad notched another run in the second and two more in the third to help put it away early on the run rule.
York, Grey and Lord all produced two hits to spur the nine-hit offensive arsenal. Midgley, Lute and
Bradi Harman had one hit each.
That was plenty of support for
Dara Hamlin, who twirled four innings for the victory, scattering four hits with one strikeout and a walk.
Brooklyn Ellis fired one frame of one-hit relief.
