Brody Roe fired a three-hit gem in the opener and Murray State rode the momentum of a late game rally to sweep a conference baseball twinbill from visiting Redlands Community College Saturday at The Ranch.
The Aggies needed a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to post a 2-1 triumph in the first outing before a 7-4 victory in game two that upped their record to 17-14 overall while Redlands fell to 5-27. The two teams are set to wrap up the three-game series on Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest at El Reno.
Roe yielded an unearned run in the opening inning but otherwise was dominant throughout while allowing his defense to work. The Murray State ace gave up just two hits over the final six stanzas while striking out four and walking one.
Murray State squandered a couple of scoring chances before coming up with key plays in the seventh.
Gage Gilchrist got things rolling with a one out double as
Austin Haley was then hit by a pitch and
Wilbert Espinal walked to load the bases.
Andrew Tinsley delivered a game-tying sacrifice fly and the Redlands relay throwing sailed out of play to plate the winning run.
Gilchrist, Haley and
Ethan Rone all had two hits to pace the Aggie offense. Espinal,
Brennan Morgan and
Ty Chaddrick ended with one hit apiece.
The Aggies built a 3-0 edge in the second game spurred by a two-run homer from Morgan in the second inning. Redlands however knotted the score on frame later and it remained that way until the sixth when the hosts came alive again.
A pair of hit batsmen and Gilchrist single loaded the bases for the Aggies with nobody out. Espinal pushed across the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly and Tinsley then doubled in a pair. They added another insurance tally in the eighth after Tinsley and Rone back-to-back two-out singles.
Redlands answered with a run in the ninth and had the tying runs on base with one away when
Nathan Darden slammed the door for the save by coaxing a strikeout and pop out.
Rone posted three hits with Gilchrist, Tinsley and Morgan contributing two each. Chaddrick and Espinal had one hit apiece.
