POTEAU, Okla – With the looming threat of rain, the fifth-ranked Murray State Lady Aggies beat the weather and Carl Albert State College for a conference road sweep on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lady Aggies pounced on the host Lady Vikings, 11-4, in game one before notching an 8-1 triumph in the nightcap to up their second record to 26-4. Carl Albert slipped to 4-18 overall.
Coach Aaron Mullens' troops spotted the hosts an early 1-0 advantage in the opener before scoring in each of the next four stanzas to take a commanding 8-1 edge.
A
Gracie Lute solo home run knotted the score in the second inning.
Kennedy Lord then doubled and raced home on a two-out RBI single from
Karsyn York that put Murray State ahead to stay.
The Lady Aggies utilized a two-out rally for a pair of runs in the third on a
Mattie Richardson single. They added three more in the fourth fueled by a Lute two-run single.
Carl Albert tried to make a game of it with three tallies in the sixth, but Murray State answered immediately spurred by a
Bradi Harman two-run homer.
Murray State posted 16 hits with three each coming from
Lexi Meadows,
Shaylin Midgley and Lute. York and Lord tossed in two hits apiece as Harman, Courtney Gray and Richardson all chipped in one.
Gray worked four innings in the pitching circle, yielding one run on three hits, to record the victory.
Brooklyn Ellis was tagged for three runs on four hits while
Bella Butler tallied one scoreless inning.
It was
Dara Hamlin toeing the rubber in game two and she was spectacular in going the distance over seven innings, yielding just one run on six hits with a pair of strikeouts.
The Lady Aggies scored a first inning run thanks to four walks before tacking on two more in the third as Harman doubled,
Haili Igou walked and Midgley singled. Grey and Lord then coaxed walks to force in runs.
Murray State plated one more in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the seventh as they made the most of only six hits in the contest.
Meadows contributed two of the hits while Harman, Midgley, Gray and Richardson tossed in one hit.
