DENISON, Texas - Murray State rolled to victory in the opener and then broke open a tight game in the fourth inning of game two to finish off a sweep of Otero Junior College Wednesday afternoon at Grayson County College.
It was all Murray State in the first outing, blasting their way to 17 hits in just four innings for a 19-2 pasting of the Colorado foe. Game was a 1-1 deadlock in the fourth before Coach Aaron Mullens' club pulled away for a 6-1 triumph.
The 11
th ranked Lady Aggies remained unbeaten at 8-0 and will be back at Grayson on Friday for the THF Winter Blast where they will face Vernon College and Iowa Central beginning at 1:15 p.m.
Murray State scored early and often in the opening game thumping, getting off to a solid offensive start as they poured on runs in all of the first four stanzas.
Karsyn York,
Haili Igou,
Shaylin Midgley and
Gracie Lute all contributed singles to stake the Lady Aggies to a 2-0 first inning edge. York and Igou also chipped in RBI singles along with a two-run double from
Bradi Harman to help push it to a six-run cushion.
Courtney Gray had the big blow a frame later, following a Lute single and
Bella Butler double with a three-run homer over the centerfield wall.
Murray State then sent 13 batters to the plate in the fourth stanza and pushed across 10 more runs sparked by a pair of home run bombs off the bat of Midgley, who tallied six runs of the runs batted in during the frame herself. Harman added two singles and Igou doubled in another run.
York, Harman, Igou and Midgley all posted three hits in the 17-hit Lady Aggie assault. In addition to Midgley's game-high six batted in, Harman checked in with four RBI, Igou knocked in three and York notched a pair batted in. Lute and Gray provided two hits each as Butler ended with one.
Gray also went the distance in the pitching circle, yielding two runs on two hits while also striking out seven.
Midgley's sacrifice fly accounted for the lone Lady Aggie run until the fourth inning uprising which started with a Lute single.
Brighton O'Connor also added a single before
Mattie Richardson smacked a RBI sac fly to left that put Murray State ahead for good.
York and
Lexi Meadows chipped in run-scoring singles and Harman plated another tally with a triple.
The Lady Aggies tacked on a final run on Gray's solo homer in the fifth stanza.
Dara Hamlin twirled six strong innings, yielding an unearned run on three hits for the pitching win. She struck out five and walked none as
Brooklyn Ellis fired the final scoreless frame of one-hit relief.
Meadows posted a perfect three for three performance at the plate, scoring twice and driving in one, to spur the offensive charge. York and Gray contributed two hits and one RBI each with Harman, Lute and O'Connor ending with one hit apiece.
