Lady Aggies wrap up dominant homestand

It was all Lady Aggies once again on Thursday afternoon as 11th ranked Murray State smashed Dodge City Community College for a softball sweep to conclude a successful opening homestand in which they won six games by a combined score of 86-8.

Thursday's outings were another offensive showcase while the Murray State pitching staff was yielding just three hits and no runs on the way to convincing 16-0 and 13-0 whitewashings of the visitors.

Coach Aaron Mullens' troops went on the early offensive again in the opening contest, racing to a 6-0 lead after one inning before plating five in the second, two in the third and three in the four en route to the run rule triumph.

Courtney Gray's three-run homer provided the key blow in the first stanza as Lexi Meadows, Haili Igou and Shaylin Midgley each contributing singles.

Bradi Harman and Mattie Richardson each belted two RBI doubles in the second inning uprising ahead of an Igou two-run home run in the third. Harman and Jordan Hayes tossed in RBI doubles in the fourth as well.

Harman tallied three hits and four batted in while also scoring three times to pace the Murray offensive charge. Igou also notched three hits and drove in a pair. Meadows, Midgley and Gray all finished with two hits as Richardson, Bella Butler, Hayes and Brynn Surmont posted one apiece.

Gray worked three innings, striking out three, with Butler chipping in two scoreless frames as well to combine for the first no hitter of the season.

The Lady Aggies got off to a fast start again in the second contest, plating three tallies in the first inning as Harman drove in a pair with another double and Midgley added a RBI with a sacrifice fly.

It was Gray that got things rolling in an eight-run explosion in inning two, leading off with a double to left. Karsyn York and Meadows each drove in one with singles and Harman smacked a three-run homer over the centerfield wall.

Igou kept the long ball flurry going with a solo home run, Midgley doubled and Gray added the third blast of the frame that pushed across two. York knocked in a single tally in the third with Brighton O'Connor doubling and scoring on a Maliya Chavez groundout in the fourth for the final run of the stanza.

York spurred the 14-hit attack with three hits as well as two RBI and two runs scored. Harman drove in five with her pair of extra base hits with Gray and Richardson also posting two hits. Meadows, Igou, O'Connor, Midgley and Emily Rogers all contributed one hit.

Dara Hamlin tossed three frames for the pitching win, allowing a pair of hits with five strikeouts. Brooklyn Ellis added two innings of relief with one hit and one strikeout.

The Lady Aggies will travel to Denison, Texas next Wednesday for a pair of outings with Otero Junior College in their next outings.
