DALLAS, Texas – Despite playing without two of their top three scoring leaders, Murray State found a big offensive punch from
Abeeng Agot in the second half to rally for an impressive 81-64 win on the road at Dallas College-Mountain View on Wednesday night.
It was a much better defensive performance by the Aggies than their last meeting with the Lions as they held the Dallas squad 16 points below their season average and 20 points below the first meeting between the teams nine days earlier in Tishomingo.
"I was proud of our guys response in the second half," said Coach Davis. "I thought we showed some real growth."
With offensive stalwarts
Brandon Ivery and
Bol Agu along with their more than 30 points per game sidelined with injuries, the Aggies needed a catalyst to step up offensively along with second leading scorer
Elijah Tshibangu. Murray State got just that and more from the 6-foot-7 freshman Agot, who exploded for 18 points after the break, including six straight points during one stretch in which the visitors pushed the advantage to nearly 20.
Trailing 36-33 to start the second half, Tshibangu was the catalyst during a 10-2 flurry by the Aggies which gave them the lead for good. The freshman from Belgium notched six of his 15 second half points during the run but it was two
RJ Chatman charity tosses that put Murray State in front early after the break.
Tshibangu joined Agot with season-best 27-point efforts while
Rustin Coffey and
Ignas Juskevicius tossed in eight apiece. Chatman scored five,
Chanon Frye pitched in four with
Luke Linder also notching two.
Improving to 6-2 on the season, the Aggies continue with the second game of a five-game road trip at 4 p.m. Saturday at Grayson County College.
