Rustin Coffey scored all of his 13 points after intermission, including two free throws with 1.8 seconds left to force overtime, but the Murray State Aggies came up short in the extra period for a 90-88 loss to visiting Southwestern Christian College on Saturday afternoon.

The Aggies trailed for virtually the entire contest, including 42-30 at the halftime break, but utilized big second half efforts from Coffey, Elijah Tshibangu and Bol Agu to knot things at 74 after regulation. The trio combined for 38 of Murray State's 44 points after intermission.

Murray State eventually took its first lead since early in the contest on Agu's steal and layup with 6:02 remaining, which proved to be first of eight straight points from the sophomore post player, but the Aggies could not distance themselves thanks to scorching outside shooting from the Rams. Southwestern Christian finished the contest with 12 three pointers.

The lead was 72-69 following a Brandon Ivery off-balance bucket with 1:24 to play but that proved to be the hosts' final field goal of regulation.

Ivery drilled a pair of treys in overtime to keep the Aggies within striking distance, but they could never come up with the key defensive stop when they needed it. Coffey and Chanon Frye each scored tying baskets off Agu assists in the closing minute but Murray State misfired on a pair of potential game-winning three point tries in the final seconds.

For the game, the Aggies connected on just four of 22 three point attempts.

"We couldn't get stops when we needed them," said head coach Josh Davis. "We just have to be better. It was a tough loss. That's a good team though, way better than their record indicates."

Ivey notched a team-high 22 points to fuel the Aggies offensively as four players hit double figures. Agu ended with 19, Tshibangu posted 17 and Coffey chipped in 13.

The Aggies also got seven from RJ Chatman as well as four by Frye with Luke Linder, Ignas Juskevicius and Devon MacCollister contributing two each.

Murray State, which dropped to 4-2, will be right back in action Monday night to close out a five-game homestand against Loyalty College Prep at 6 p.m.
