Sophomore Shaylin Midgley made a huge debut in blasting a pair of home runs and a double while driving in eight to fuel 11th ranked Murray State to a season-opening softball sweep of Western Texas College Tuesday afternoon in Tishomingo.

The Lady Aggies continue a six-game week one homestand on Wednesday with a noon twinbill against Garden City Community College.

Midgley was one of several hitting stars in their Murray State debuts as the hosts pounded out a total of 23 hits on the day, 10 of which went for extra bases. The Lady Aggies cruised to an 11-3 triumph in the opener before grabbing the nightcap 12-4 in run-rule fashion as well.

In the opener, Murray State wasted little time in plating three first inning runs. Midgley drove in her first two of the day with a two-out single and Gracie Lute followed with a RBI single of her own.

It was a two-out flurry again in the second stanza as Karsyn York and Lexi Meadows each singled in front of Bradi Harman's two-run triple to right field. Haili Igou then followed with the first home run of the Lady Aggie season to make it a 7-0 cushion.

Bella Butler singled, Courtney Gray doubled and Mattie Richardson added another run with a sacrifice fly in the third ahead of a York run-scoring single. Harman doubled to begin the fourth frame and came across on Midgley's third RBI of the game for a commanding 10-0 edge and they coasted in from there.

Harman tallied three hits, including a double and triple, while chipping two RBI. York accounted for two hits and drove in one while Meadows, Igou, Midgley, Lute, Butler and Gray all posted a hit.

Dara Hamlin was the offensive benefactor, yielding no runs on one hit in five innings of pitching work for the victory. She struck out six and walked one.

Game two was much the same story, although the hosts briefly trailed 3-2 in the third inning before exploding for nine straight runs.

Midgley's two-run blast in the second inning put Murray State out in front, but it was three straight Lady Aggie hits to begin the third stanza that put them ahead to stay.

Richardson beat out a bunt single and rode home with the tying run on a York double. Meadows then notched the go-ahead RBI single and Lute added to the cushion with a two-run double.

A string of four consecutive hits in the fourth inning put it completely out of reach as Meadows and Harman each singled, Igou doubled and Midgley blasted a three-run homer over the leftfield wall.

Meadows tallied three hits and drove in a pair to pace the onslaught. Harman, Igou and Midgley all tossed in two hits with York, Lute and Richardson ending with one apiece. Harman drove in two while Midgley knocked in five.

Brooklyn Ellis, Butler and Gray combined in the pitching effort, scattering four runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
