A pair of shutouts propelled the Murray State soccer teams to a sweep of Trinity Valley Community College on the road Thursday.
The Lady Aggies evened their record at 1-1 with a strong 7-0 triumph over the hosts, controlling the action in the offensive end of the field throughout the game. In men's play, the Aggies ran their record to 2-0 on the young season by blanking the Cardinals by a 5-0 margin.
Each team was slated to continue the pre-conference slate on Saturday at Paris Junior College.
In the women's action, newcomer
Uxia Varela from Spain powered through a pair of the Murray State goals and also picked up two assists to lead the Lady Aggie charge.
Coach John Connor's group also picked up goals from
Celine Loraine,
Mercedes Stumblingbear,
Lily Humes,
Aimee Steele and
Kaylee Foster. Humes and Foster also recorded assists with
Jasandra Joseph notching two that led to scores as well as a Cristina Escudero assist.
The Aggie men got off to a fast start in the second game, notching two goals along the way from Brazil native Breno Barros in building the lead.
Joshua Adeyemi,
Lucas Peruzo and
Joel Green also found the back of the Trinity Valley net for scores.
Murray State assists went to Green, Adeyemi,
Dominic Woolley and
Daika Montague.
"I was extremely pleased with the performance by both teams," Connor commented. "We have made good strides in the week since our opening contest and look for that to continue as we build toward conference play."
