After a two-week scheduling break loaded with adversity, the top-ranked Murray State Lady Aggies shook off any rust in convincing fashion with a doubleheader sweep Saturday at Carl Albert Junior College.

The Lady Aggies forged a 6-0 win in the opener and then followed up with a 17-1 rout in game two while staying unbeaten at 32-0 on the season. Coach Aaron Mullens' squad will be back home for the first time since March 11 on Wednesday afternoon when they host Southern Arkansas Tech for a twinbill.

With normal game one starter Christina Clark sidelined with injuries, the Lady Aggies went to Alexa Hopkins in the pitching circle for the first contest and the sophomore delivered a complete game shutout gem, scattering six hits while striking out three.

It took the Murray State bats a bit to get untracked, plating single runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth stanzas before finishing it off with two tallies in the seventh as they totaled 12 hits in the game.

Kenzie Tuck led off the second with a solo homer to break the scoreless deadlock and Shallen Mershon repeated that feat in the third inning before a Brylea Russell RBI double scored Emma Damato in the fourth to make it a 3-0 advantage.

Russell doubled again in the sixth and rode home on a Jadyn Hook single with Rayna Rock and Damato contributing run-scoring hits in the seventh. Damato posted three hits in the contest with Mershon and Russell each contributing a pair.

It was all Lady Aggies in the second game as they erupted for six runs in the top half of the first frame and never looked back.

Chesnie Hewitt opened the contest with a solo home run to left before a Carl Albert error and walk set the stage for a run-scoring hit by Abby Beck. Tuck chipped in a single with Hook knocking in a pair of runs on a two-out single. Damato also drove in two with a single.

Murray State plated another in the third on a bases loaded walk ahead of run-scoring hits from Rock and Hook in the fourth stanza. An eight-run fifth finished things off fueled by a three-run triple off the bat of Hewitt and RBI double from K.J. Morgan.

Hewitt notched three hits and five RBI as Morgan, Beck, Russell and Hook all contributed two hits as Ileana Lucio fired four innings for the pitching victory, yielding no runs on four hits and fanned eight.
