Aggies fall twice to close out SouthArk series

Runs were tough to come by on Friday afternoon as the Murray State Aggie baseball squad dropped a conference twinbill on the road at South Arkansas Community College.

The Aggies managed only two hits in the 11-0 loss in the opener before falling by an 11-4 count in the nightcap to split the four-game series with the Stars. Now 29-13 overall and 15-9 in conference action, Murray State will be back on the road Thursday at Redlands Community College in El Reno.

Following a pair of scoreless, SouthArk finally broke through with two runs in the third, five more in the fourth and four in the fifth to end it early on the run rule. Ashton Inman had a double and Garrett Gruell tossed in a single for the lone Murray State hits in the contest.

Game two was a little better, but the offense continues to struggle as the Aggies accounted for seven hits and also committed four errors, leading to seven unearned runs for the Stars.

Things looked solid in the second stanza as Murray State raced to a 3-0 lead. Clay Jung opened the game with a single and rode home one batter later on a Garrett Gruell two-run homer. They added the third tally in the second frame after a hit batter, Brady Benedict double and Jung sacrifice fly.

That edge quickly vanished with SouthArk erupting for five in the bottom of the inning as the first half of 10 unanswered tallies by the hosts until the sixth inning. Murray State finally ended the scoring dry spell in the frame as Patrick McCullough singled and eventually scored on a Benedict sacrifice fly.

McCullough notched three hits, including a double, as Jung also contributed a pair of hits.
