Aggie bats go cold in falling to Connors

Offense was tough to come by for the Murray State baseball team Saturday, dropping their first two games of the season with a doubleheader loss to Division I powerhouse Connors State College.

The Aggies came up on the short end of a narrow 3-2 verdict in the opener despite a strong pitching start from Colby Langford and the offense managed only three hits while falling 12-1 in the nightcap to see their record dip to 5-2.

Murray State answered a pair of Connors State runs in the sixth inning, plating two themselves to knot the score. Ashton Inman opened with a single and Patrick McCullough followed with a double. One run came across on Espinal's groundout and the second raced home on a passed ball.

Clay Jung, Wilbert Espinal and Brady Benedict posted two hits apiece while leading the nine-hit Murray attack. Langford twirled six strong stanzas, scattering four hits and struck out 11. Tyler Zylstra was charged with the loss however, yielding one run on five hits in three stanzas of work.

About the only bright spot for Murray in game two as a solo home run from Gage Gilchrist.

Next on the docket for the Aggies is a noon Monday twinbill with Richland College in Tishomingo.
