Lady Aggies scorch nets in Western thumping

The Murray State Lady Aggies ran their winning streak to eight and rolled up a season-best scoring total Thursday night in a 104-63 thumping of Western Oklahoma State College at Beames Fieldhouse.

With the victory, the Lady Aggies improved to 15-6 on the season and closed out the first half of conference play with a 7-1 record.

It was pretty clear it was going to be a good night for Murray State as every player in uniform got on the scoreboard in the first half as the Lady Aggies sizzled the nets for 23 field goals before intermission. That resulted in a whopping 58-37 advantage after fast-paced opening 20 minutes.

Reese Webb scored 13 with Briana Knabe adding 12 and Jade Millan 10 in the early offensive barrage.

The shooting slowed down a bit after the break, but not much as Murray outscored the visitors by a 46-26 count over the final two frames.

In total, six Lady Aggies reached double figures paced by a season-best 18 points from Lanie Gooch. Webb and Knabe pumped in 15 apiece, Millan scored 14, Teniola Okunrinkoya had 11 and Paige Taylor notched 10.

Murray State also got eight from Payton James, five by Mattie Busby with Cristina Laudan and Bella Peterson both contributing four points.

The Lady Aggies will open the second half of league play on Monday at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami.
