A 21-1 scoring burst by Connors State to close the first half dug the Murray State Aggies too big of a hole to climb out of in a 72-57 conference loss to the visiting Cowboys Thursday night inside Beames Fieldhouse.
The Aggies slip to 17-6 overall and 6-4 in league while their offensive woes continued in a third straight defeat. They will be on the road Monday at Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
Murray State led through most the game's opening 12 minutes, getting three pointers from
Rustin Coffey and
Chanon Frye while seven different players all scored. A single
Brandon Ivery free throw proved to be the lone Aggie point the remainder of the half while watching Connors pour in the final 16 points before intermission.
Coach Josh Davis' squad found a bit more offensive rhythm in the final 20 minutes as R.J. Chatman pumped in 10 points, including three treys while
Elijah Tshibangu tossed in nine. Connors however matched the hosts nearly score-for-score while holding the Aggies at bay.
Chatman pumped in 12 and Tshibangu ended with 11 in leading Murray State offensively.
Brandon Ivery and
Bol Agu posted eight apiece,
Abeeng Agot,
Rustin Coffey and Frye all scored five with
Ignas Juskevicius pitching in two.
