ENID, Okla –
Alexis Lopez posted a pair of first half goals to stake the Murray State men to a halftime lead and the Aggies pulled away after intermission for a 5-1 conference-opening win at Northern Oklahoma College in Enid on Saturday.
The Aggies improved to 3-0 overall on the young season while the Lady Aggie battled to a 1-1 deadlock in their league lid lifter.
Both teams return home on Wednesday to face off with Connors State College with the women starting the action at 1 p.m.
Lopez punched through opening half scores on assists by
Shuto Ishikawa and
Gustavo Ursino before Murray State turned it on over the final 45 minutes with three additional goals.
Ursino added the first off an
Erik Montanez feed and Ishikawa knocked through the second with
Bryan Garcia's assist. The Aggies final goal came from
Matias Bauza with
Leo Aquino and Garcia contributing on the scoring assist.
Freshman
Francisco Pinochet posted another strong outing in goal, allowing the one lone goal in the Murray State victory.
The women's contest was a tight, defensive battle throughout with neither team able to sustain much offensively, much less put together much scoring.
Murray State's goal came in the first half when
Emilia Zanetti fed
Cristina Escudero, who found the back of the net.
Takielia Griffiths was outstanding in net once again for the Lady Aggies, yielding only one goal by the Lady Jets.
