Charity tosses too much for Aggies to overcome

WILBURTON, Okla. - After battling through a tight first half, Murray State watched the host Eastern Oklahoma State Mountaineers sink 21 of 24 free throws in the final half to pull away to a 75-65 conference basketball victory Monday night.

Murray State saw its record fall to 14-15 overall and 9-6 in league action with a pivotal game for conference tournament seeding on tap Thursday when the Aggies return to host Western Oklahoma State College in the regular season finale. Eastern meanwhile upped its season slate to 20-9 and 8-7 in conference.

R.J. Chatman and Isaiah Lewis each pumped in nine first half points to fuel the Aggie charge that kept them right with the Mountaineers throughout the opening 20 minutes, eventually trailing 31-27 at the break.

The second half however, saw Eastern make a living at the charity stripe while Murray State connected on just seven of 13 tries. That was a key component in a 44-point flurry by the Mountaineers following the break.

Three Aggies reached double figures, sparked by Lewis' 17 points. Tarrance Austin tallied 16 with Stanley Harley hitting for 10 points. Chatman ended with nine, Rustin Coffey had five as Ignas Juskevicius and Treyvaughn Williams posted three apiece and Emery Eberhard rounded things out with two.
