The Murray State softball team finished with a hitting edge but went scoreless over the final four stanzas while visiting Grayson County College rallied for a 7-5 victory on Tuesday in Tishomingo.
Coach Aaron Mullens' club got off to a fast start with a pair of opening inning runs as
Karsyn York singled ahead of a run-scoring double from
Bradi Harman and RBI single by
Shaylin Midgley.
Fifth-ranked Grayson tied it with two of its own in the second and went ahead with another pair in the third before the Lady Aggies answered to reclaim the lead.
Haili Igou started the rally with a double and then rode home on a Midgley single to right.
Gracie Lute and
Brynn Surmont added singles ahead of a
Mattie Richardson two RBI triple that made it a 5-3 Murray State advantage.
That, however, proved to be the final Lady Aggies runs of the game as well as the final hit until a two-out single by Midgley in the seventh inning.
Murray State finished with 10 hits, spurred by Midgley's three along with two RBI and one run scored. Richardson tallied a pair with York, Harman, Igou, Lute and Surmont all notching one.
Courtney Gray got the pitching start and tossed two and one-third stanzas, allowing three runs on three hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Brooklyn Ellis added three and two-third frames of relief, yielding three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
Dara Hamlin fired a scoreless seventh, fanning two batters.
Now 16-2 on the season, Murray State remains home for its next outing on Friday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader against Coffeyville Community College.
