Austin Haley blasted two homers and drove in a whopping eight runs as Murray State evened the weekend baseball series against third-ranked Pearl River Community College with a 15-9 win on Saturday afternoon.
The Aggies evened their season record and will try to win the series on Sunday in a 2 p.m. with the host Wildcats.
Ten total runs in the fourth and fifth innings helped Murray State erase a 3-1 deficit in claiming the lead for good.
A pair of walks and two Pearl River errors got things rolling for the Aggies in a six-run outburst in the fourth frame.
Gage Gilchrist added a single to right that plated the tying run and Haley followed with a grand slam over the rightfield wall.
After the Wildcats narrowed the gap to 7-5, Murray State powered the lead back with four tallies in the fifth.
Jaxon Gless and
Ty Chaddrick contributed key hits while Haley drove in two more with his second home run of the contest.
Murray State made it 13-5 in the seventh with Haley once again adding the big hit on a two RBI single to right. A pair of insurance tallies came home two innings later with an
Andrew Tinsley two RBI double to left.
The Aggies pounded out 15 hits, fueled by Haley's three along with three from Chaddrick. Gilchrist,
Wilbert Espinal, Tinsley and
Brennan Morgan all notched two hits apiece. Gless had one.
Cash Kuiper tossed three and two-third frames, allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts. Javarion Roquemore picked up the victory in four and one-third stanzas that included two runs on three hits with a whopping seven strikeouts.
Ryan Dugas twirled the final frame, allowing two runs on two hits.
