Aggies smother Hill early for 4th straight win

HILLSBORO, Texas – Two weeks ago Murray State stifled the Hill College men to a season-low scoring total. In the rematch Tuesday night, the Aggies did one better, eclipsing that defensive performance on the Rebels' own court with a 65-46 triumph that ran their winning streak to four.

Coach Josh Davis' squad upped its record to 8-2 with the Hill season sweep and will be off until Wednesday, December 4 when they visit Collin County College for another non-conference rematch.

"I was really proud of our defensive effort," Davis commented. "I'm glad all of our work in that area is paying off. Our offense still has a lot of ways to grow but we are clicking defensively and guys are playing well on that end of the floor."

The Aggies put on an incredible first half defensive showing that squelched the Hill scoring to only 13 points in the first 20 minutes. Murray's offensive output was limited as well in the early slugfest as neither team shot the ball very well from the field, but still held a 24-13 edge at intermission.

Both teams heated up after the break, but Murray State maintained its advantage with an extremely balanced scoring assault fueled by 10 second half points from Ignas Juskevicius.

RJ Chatman led the offense with 13 points, just ahead of Juskevicius' 12. Bol Agu also reached double figures with 10 as Rustin Coffey and Elijah Tshibangu were just under that mark with nine points apiece. Chanon Frye tallied seven with three from Devon MacCollister and two by Luke Linder.

"Hill was such a tough defensive team we just took what the defense was giving us," Davis added. "We made the right plays and hit open guys which provided that balance. I would have liked to have better offensive efficiency, but it was enough to pick up a solid win on the road."
