Murray State Sports Information
Balanced scoring and a spectacular defensive clamp down helped keep the Murray State Aggies unbeaten in conference play with an 82-59 triumph over Northern Oklahoma Tonkawa Thursday night at Beames Fieldhouse.
The visiting Mavericks came in averaging nearly 86 points per game, including 102 in their last outing, but were held to a season-low 59 points thanks to a suffocating defensive effort from the Aggies.
Murray State raced to a double-digit first half lead before carrying a 41-34 advantage to the halftime break. The stifling defensive performance ramped up even more after intermission as NOC-Tonkawa was limited to just 25 points as the hosts steadily pulled away to improve their season record to 7-9, but more importantly 2-0 since the Christmas break.
Freshman
Isaiah Lewis continued his surge in league play, pumping in a season-best 28 points to fuel the Murray State offensive charge. He teamed up with sophomore
Stanley Harley to smother Maverick and conference scoring leader Javontae Campbell to a single point in the second half. He finished with just 13.
Harley added his normal offensive spark off the bench as well, tossing in 18 points.
RJ Chatman tallied 13 and
Tarrance Austin scored 12 to put four Aggies in double figures.
Emery Eberhard contributed four,
Dayvantia Campbell notched three along with
Treyvaughn Williams.
The Aggies are slated to wrap up their current homestand Monday night against Northern Oklahoma College-Enid for a 7:30 tipoff.
