Tremendous depth was definitely in the spotlight for the Murray State Aggie golf team as they began the 2023 season with solid showings in the Hesston College Fall Invitational this week.
The Murray State "A" squad claimed third in the team standings by posting a three-round total score of 884. The Aggie "B" team also recorded an eighth-place score of 913, even outshooting the "A" unit in the final round.
"I am really thrilled with how we came out and competed at this tournament," head coach Lukas Coppedge commented. "We were slightly disappointed with how we finished but can't come away from the tournament with bad feelings. These would have been our best rounds last year.
"I am thrilled to have this much depth on the team. The competition within this team is going to be insane. I can't wait to see how this year unfolds."
The Aggie featured club was spurred by Germany sophomore
Jurgen Ballesteros, who was barely over par throughout the night with rounds of 72, 74 and 71 for a three-round 217.
Adam Husell notched the best individual round of the tournament with a second-round score of a sizzling 69. Coupled with a first and third round score of 76 to end at 221. Â Two shots back at 223 was
Elias Tamer as he picked up scores of 72, 76 and 75.
Hunter Estep was right in contention as well with a 225 while
Noah Choi wrapped up with a three-round score of 232.
Thanks to a final round scorching 68,
Sid Beadle claimed high individual honors on the "B" squad with an 80 and 75 to post a 223 total.
Lars Gustavsson charged to a 228 over the three-day total with scores of 77 twice and 74.
Dilyn Hart ended at 234 with Enrique De Cuevas just behind with a tally of 235.
Camden Maroney rounded out the top with a 240
The Aggie men won't be back in full throttle for nearly two weeks when they travel to Joplin, Missouri for the NJCAA National Preview on September 18 and 19.
