Murray State Sports Information
Defense continued to be the story for the Murray State men's soccer team on Sunday as the Aggies posted their third consecutive shutout in a 3-0 conference-opening blanking of University of Arkansas Rich Mountain.
Now 3-0 on the young season, the Aggies will face a stiff test Wednesday as they go on the road to face league rival Rose State at 3 p.m.
In Sunday's home opener, the Murray State defense limited the Bucks' scoring opportunities to a minimum as the Aggies controlled the ball in the offensive zone much of the contest, even though they were forced to play at man down the final 60 minutes of the contest due to a red card penalty.
"There is a lot of season to play over a very short period of time but we are playing well so far," head coach John Connor said. "We must stay healthy and keep our heads up because we have some big games ahead. Rose State on Wednesday is always one of the most intense contests we have all season.
"I want to give a big shout out to our back line today.
Victor Maia,
Thomas Arboleda,
Caio Felipe and
Uros Vulovic all played 90 minutes on the back line and were really outstanding to limit chances Rich Mountain had even though we were a man down most of the time."
The Aggies notched a pair of first half goals to carry a 2-0 advantage to the halftime break and even punched in a third score with 20 minutes left even being short handed.
Dominic Woolley,
Pepijn Borst and
Joel Green all found the back of the net with scores for Murray State while
Lucas Peruzo,
Jah-Malee Barclay and
Joshua Adeyemi contributed assists. Sophomore
Jaron Noble recorded five saves.
