Kenzie Tuck homered twice and doubled in game one and the top-rated Murray State Lady Aggies rode a 14-hit barrage in just four innings of the second contest to crush the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain on Thursday afternoon.
Murray State cruised to an 8-0 five-inning run rule in the opener and then followed by blasting their way to a 15-4 triumph while improving to 36-0 on the season. The Lady Aggies are slated to close out the homestand Saturday with a noon doubleheader against National Park College.
While Tuck was the offensive stalwart in the first game, it was dynamic pitching from
Alexa Hopkins that also fanned the fire as she fired a one-hitter that included four strikeouts.
The Lady Aggies broke a scoreless deadlock in the second inning when Tuck belted a solo home run over the centerfield wall to ignite a three-run outburst. That flurry included three consecutive two-out hits from
Brylea Russell,
Jadyn Hook and
Emma Damato.
Tuck homered once more in a frame later, driving in two to make it a 5-0 advantage. They tacked on another pair in the fourth as
Chesnie Hewitt, K.J. Morgan and
Shallen Mershon strung together consecutive two-out hits. Tuck and
Rayna Rock each doubled in the fifth and Mershon ended it with a walkoff single.
In addition to Tuck's three hits, Rock and Russell posted two each with Hewitt, Morgan, Mershon, Hook and Damato ending with one each.
The Murray State offense came out blazing in the second game, plating five runs in the opening stanza and never looked back as a double from Russell proved to be the catalyst.
They added another tally in the second frame when Abby Back smacked a solo homer before the Lady Aggies poured on four runs in the third and another five in the fourth.
That proved to be plenty of support for
Ileana Lucio as she yielded four runs on six hits and struck out four in three and two-third stanzas for the pitching win. Hopkins tossed in an inning and a third of scoreless relief that included three strikeouts.
Russell tallied three hits, including a pair of doubles, while Hewitt also provided three hits with one being a double. Morgan and Damato both finished with two hits as Mershon, Beck, Tuck and Hook all added one.
